The day my baby’s hair got snipped!
Monday, July 30th, 2007It was a typical Friday. No expectation. The day went well in the office (partly becos the Big Boss was away
) and I managed to complete all ad hoc assignments I had dumped on my table for the past week :p. So left the office early to see my precious Amirul and also to bring him to the pasar malam for some good ol kebab therapy.
Drove into the driveway.. The TV in the living room was on and I thought, ok maybe MIL has guests in the house. As soon as I opened the door, Amirul surprised me with his big grin. However, I noticed something amiss with his hair. His long out-of-the-bed-hair is now SHORT! And he looked like a GIRL! I remembered his cousin having that same style when she was smaller. Immediately I knew who had done it. YES… my dear ol MIL. I freaked out!
See, his Abah and I decided to keep his hair a little longer than usual (not Mat Rock kinda hair ya). Cos he just had nice hair.
A combination of Mommy and Abah’s hair. So we explicitly told everyone that if any cutting should be done, it would be by us. Only us. So it was a constant reminder (more to hubby’s parents cos my parents don’t meddle with our personal needs, TG) but I guess that bit was just forgotten when MIL snipped my baby’s precious locks!! Mind you, this has happened before and we again ‘warned’ her not to cut his hair anymore (Period).
Seriously, out of respect I just smiled and said that now Amirul looks like a girl. Why did she have to cut it anyway when we told her not to. Hubs would go crazieee. I quickly went upstairs to vent out my frustation and quickly called hubs. Yep, he went craziee. He was already on the way home and since I was on Video Call with him, I showed him Amirul’s hair. I felt like crying. Yalah, we ’saved’ his hair for many months and now it’s gone! So hubs told me to wait until he gets back..
I looked at Amirul again andI felt bad for him. Cos dahlah he had a sweet face, with that kind of hair.. ppl might think he was actually a girl. He looked more of a boy with long hair actually. Sheesh!
Went downstairs, got the keys and hurried to the car with Amirul for our pasar malam date. I hope MIL realised that I was upset. Maybe I’m exaggerating but where is the respect? She could at least call me or hubs asking for permission as she knew very well that we prefer his hair long. So I question the whole integrity bit. The short drive to the pasar malam was filled with ‘Why did she do it?’. ‘Was it too much to ask of her?’ ‘Are we puppets?’ I was just too angry but of course I still respect her only at that time, respect has left the building!
At the pasar malam, I kept calling out his name just to make it a point to anyone who thought he was a GIRL! Sian my baby. Left for 7-11 right after and met hubs there. He was shocked and angry. Made our way back home and hubs confronted his Mom. I was out of words so I took Amirul upstairs and we watched the Disney Channel.
So hubs and I decided to get professional help for his hair. Even my mom was a taken aback when we arrived in Bangsar. His ‘teacher’ at Kidzports pun commented on his hair…… Thank God for the professional hairstylist in Cut & Above…. My son’s hair was saved. And he looks much better now:)
I just hope after this only hubs and I have the final say on his hair. Now I actually fear for my unborn child’s hair ;P. Errrkkkk…
